Is it time to rethink the waterfall island?
Waterfall islands have long been associated with high-end kitchens. By extending the worktop material down the sides of the island, they create a striking architectural feature, particularly when using natural stone.
But their popularity has also made them an increasingly predictable choice.
At Cor Domi, we believe the starting point should always be the architecture of the home and how our clients intend to use their kitchen. A waterfall edge might be exactly right for one project, while another could benefit from a more understated finish, distinctive joinery or a completely different island configuration.
As our Head of Design explains in Livingetc:
“It’s very easy to become too attached to a particular account’s aesthetic, materials, appliance sizes, sink, or tap.”
The point is simple: what looks beautiful in somebody else’s kitchen won’t necessarily work in your own.
A kitchen designed around you
This is where working with a bespoke kitchen and joinery studio makes a difference.
Rather than designing around a predetermined look, we consider everything from the proportions of the cabinetry and choice of materials to the finer details of how an island functions within the space.
The result should feel individual to the home, with the freedom to introduce interesting finishes, thoughtful detailing and practical solutions that might otherwise be overlooked.
After all, a kitchen is a significant investment. It deserves more consideration than simply recreating something you’ve seen online.
Our contribution to Livingetc reflects an approach we’ve always taken at Cor Domi: creating kitchens that feel personal, function beautifully and remain relevant long after the latest trend has passed.
